Today we have brought a review of very interesting device, i.e. Acer Aspire R7. It is one of the Transformer NoteBook containing full HD 1080p touchscreen 15.6 inches display and all latest hardware, let’s find is it real worth as promising.
Laptop Acer Aspire R7 comes in a large box of white cardboard, lavishly decorated with graphics and pictures of the device at different stages of transformation. Already on registration package can be seen that this is a product with a premium positioning.
In addition to the actual laptop and it contains a pretty massive power supply, adapter with additional connectors USB, D-sub, RJ45; universal stylus pen, branded wireless mouse and a microfibre cloth to clean the touch screen.
If we talk about the included stylus pen, we will find it is quite interesting from the pen of DAGi, which optionally can be purchased separately. Externally, the stylus is a normal pen with cap and clip for your pocket, except that might embarrass a respectable weight of 33 grams. However, under the cap hides the original design in the form of a miniature spring with a tip in the form of a transparent silicone circle with a diameter of 7 mm. The design looks very unusual, but in practice it was very comfortable. Transparent Circle provides sufficient for recognition of the area of contact with the touch screen and it does not overlap, allowing the most accurate aim. Spring is well below the circle is bent as a result of the stylus can be held at any convenient angle, more comfortable working with a brush, not with the whole hand.
Design of Acer Aspire R7 is pretty cool. In this section we will pay more attention to the materials used and the feel of the use of the notebook.
Most of the cover is made of silver plastic, painted by the metal. In the center of the lid there is trimmed with black plastic recess in which is hidden steel frame-hinge. When the lid is closed frame is a little more than half of the “tunnel”, the remainder of which sets off the silver panel display unit.
The lower part of the Acer Aspire R7 body is finished with softtach-black plastic. The battery compartment is hidden from the user, so for user it is not easy to replace the battery. By the way, the speaker system of this laptop is built on four speakers.
The front and rear side of the casing of Acer Aspire R7 is free from connectors. On the left side you can find a combined audio port, a pair of connectors USB 3.0, HDMI and full-size connector for the supplied adapter with ports for D-sub, RJ45 and USB 2.0. The right side has a card reader, a port USB 2.0, volume rocker button on the laptop, the power supply socket and Kensington lock hole.
Acer Aspire R7 has Island style keyboard which is powered by backlit in a fairly deep recess with open face. Large touchpad without dedicated keys handed to the keyboard that looks unusual and operation is not too comfortable. Moreover, the process of transformation of the Acer Aspire R7 is quite easy.
At first glance the Acer Aspire R7 is a multimedia solution with a discrete graphics card. This transformer notebook is powered by a processor more relevant to Ultrabooks energy-efficient 17-watt model, Intel Core i5-3337U or Intel Core i7-3537U. Apparently so the developers decided to extend the battery backup and reduce the heat dissipation of the device, which is important in tablet mode.
Acer Aspire R7 comes with 8 GB RAM and you can upgrade it 12 GB MAX. As a data warehouse canbe a hybrid set of hard disk caching 500/750/1000 GB and 24 GB SSD on a regular SSD or a 128 or 256 GB. It is powered with discrete graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2 GB of memory GDDR5, if you want to save battery life, you can switch to integrated graphics core into the processor i.e. Intel HD Graphics 4000.
The notebook Acer Aspire R7 has quality 15.6-inch matrix with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and viewing angles up to 178 degrees. Display manufactured by AUO technology AHVA (Advanced Hyper-Viewing Angle), which is a proprietary analog of the more common IPS. Interestingly, the matrix comes with a matte finish, but at the expense of an additional protective layer of glass with touch users have to deal with the gloss. Wide viewing angles and bright colors can comfortably the best thing about this touchscreen notebook laptop. Moreover, the screen brightness is adjustable from 25 to 275 cd/m2, however it automatically adjusts to ambient light conditions. Capacitive type touch panel supports up to 10 simultaneous touches.
In the present configuration laptop Acer Aspire R7 scored 5.7 points and the index performance is almost 3000 points in PCmark7. With the built-in four-section of lithium-polymer battery capacity of 53 Wh (3650 mAh, 15) laptop has worked for time 1 hour 50 minutes at maximum load, and almost three hours in reading mode, which is not much.
Acer Aspire R7 on normal mode doesn’t turn out to work “normally” – all mixed up, mess on the keyboard and touchpad. It is difficult to reach to remote touchpad while working. In our experience with the notebook, we don’t feel comfortable to the newly arranged things or else we are only used to the tradition design of notebook.
Finally in the tablet mode, despite its name, it is unlikely you will exploit this 15.6-inch tablet weighing 2.5 kg while holding it in your hands. However, it is easy to use with stylus.
Acer Aspire R7 is original middle-sized notebook-transformer with a touch-screen and Full HD discrete graphics. The model is suitable for those who are seeking a large touch-sensitive device for use at the table – designers, artists and other creative individuals. Also, it may be interesting as a mobile All-in-One for home and office use, especially where it is often necessary to effectively demonstrate the media content and data. Note that the Acer Aspire R7 is priced at $ 1299 for a version with a processor Intel Core i5 / 8GB RAM / 750GB HDD / NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M.
